Astrometric examinations

VB 10's position in the sky over a nine year period

In May 2009, astronomers Steven Pravdo and Stuart Shaklan of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory announced the discovery of an exoplanet around VB 10 using astrometric methods . Later investigation of the radial velocity of VB 10 could not confirm the propagated exoplanet and rule out the existence of an object with the properties described by Pravdo and Shaklan. At the moment there is no reliable evidence of the existence of an exoplanet around VB 10. If there was a confirmation of the discovery, VB 10 b would be the first exoplanet that was discovered with the aid of astrometry .

For the supposed companion, designated VB 10 b , a mass of around 6.4  Jupiter masses and an orbital period of almost 272  days were assumed. The companion's orbit should have a major semiaxis of about 0.36  astronomical units and a strongly elliptical shape with an eccentricity of up to 0.98, the orbit should be about 97 degrees.
