1963 World Bobsleigh Championship

The 22nd bobsleigh world championship took place in 1963 in Igls , Austria . Igls hosted the World Cup for the second time.

Even before the World Championships, there were several serious falls and therefore serious injuries, although not all of them had happened in Igls.

The runs took place on January 26th and 27th. After the first day the medal ranking was already awarded, but Switzerland I was ranked 4th, followed by Austria II, Great Britain II and USA I; Austria I was in 9th place. In the last run, Italy II was faster than the winner Monti, which means that Zardini had no chance of winning gold, but increased his lead over the British. Austria II moved up one place thanks to the fact that Switzerland I had gotten off track.

The training began on January 28th, the actual competition took place on February 2nd and 3rd. After the first day there was already the Italian double lead with Zardini ahead of Frigerio, however, the British Nash / Dixon / Hedges / Renwick followed in third place, followed by Austria I, Germany II and USA II; Austria II with the Isser brothers was in 10th place. In races three and four, Austria I was able to get the second-best time behind Zardini, which enabled the advance to the bronze rank.
