Complete medal table

The 15th European Athletics Championships took place from August 27 to September 1, 1990 in Split .

Attendees

There were two German teams for the last time at these European championships. One month before the reunification of Germany, a GDR team competed for the last time at international championships. The Soviet Union also made a final joint appearance at the European Athletics Championships before the country finally disintegrated into various states after a transition phase with a team from the so-called Commonwealth of Independent States between 1991 and 1994.

Competitions

There were no changes in the competition offer compared to the 1986 European Championships .

doping

There were two doping cases at these European Championships

There was also an unfortunate error. The Yugoslav long jumper Borut Bilač was temporarily disqualified after an incorrect doping analysis, but received his bronze medal back in 1991.

Athletic performance

In the medal table, the team from the GDR, which appeared last time, was clearly at the top with twelve gold medals and 34 medals. Second place went to Great Britain with nine European Championship titles and eighteen medals in total. The Soviet Union had six titles and a total of 21 medals. Italy had five European champions. It was followed by France with three gold medals each - two silver / five bronze medals - and the Federal Republic of Germany - two silver / two bronze medals. Host country Yugoslavia had two title holders to book.

The following successes are particularly noteworthy for the individual athletes.
