Slobodan Branković (athlete)

Slobodan Branković ( Serbian - Cyrillic Слободан Бранковић ; born October 1, 1967 in Obrenovac ) is a former Yugoslav sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run .

Life

At the European Athletics Championships in 1986 he was part of the Yugoslav team, which came in seventh place in the 4 x 400 meter relay . In 1988 he was eliminated from the Olympic Games in Seoul in the run-up to the individual competition and reached the semi-finals with the relay. The following year he was fourth at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Budapest .

In 1990 he was sixth in the individual competition and fifth in the relay at the European Athletics Championships in Split , in 1991 he came fourth with the Yugoslav relay at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo .

In 1992 he won gold at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Genoa . Due to the UN sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , he started at the Olympic Games in Barcelona as an independent Olympic participant and reached the quarter-finals. At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, he did not get past the first round.

Twice he was Yugoslav champion over 100 m (1992, 1993), four times over 200 m (1988–1990, 1993) and once over 400 m (1989).

He is currently General Secretary of the Serbian Athletics Federation.
