Manfred Kinder (born April 20, 1938 in Königsberg ) is a former German athlete and Olympic medalist who - starting for the Federal Republic - was one of the world's best 400-meter runners in the 1960s . He was involved in two Olympic medal successes with the German 4 x 400 meter relay : the 1960 silver medal in Rome and the 1968 bronze medal in Mexico City. For his sporting successes at the 1960 Olympic Games, Kinder was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .

At the Olympic Games in 1960 and 1964 he started for the Federal Republic in a joint German team.

In 1963 and 1964 Manfred Kinder was German champion in the 800 meter run , in 1959, 1960 and 1961 he won the championship title with the 4 x 400 meter relay of the OSV Hörde, in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1966 with that of the Wuppertal SV. There are also five indoor titles over 400 meters, five more indoor championships with the 4 x 400 meter relay and six runner-up titles in the stadium. In 1965 he received the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Prize .

Manfred Kinder belonged to the OSV Hörde , from 1962 to the Wuppertaler SV . In his playing days he was 1.84 m tall and weighed 75 kg. He first became a car mechanic and then joined the police force in Wuppertal .
