Johannes Schmitt (athlete)

Johannes Schmitt (born February 18, 1943 in Berlin ; † December 28, 2003 in Küssnacht ) was a German athlete and Olympic participant who - starting for the Federal Republic - won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1962 European Championships won (3: 05.8 min, European record, Johannes Schmitt, Wilfried Kindermann , Hans-Joachim Reske , Manfred Kinder ).

He also started at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo : With the 4-by-400-meter relay, he finished fifth (3: 04.3 min), in the 400-meter run he was eliminated in the intermediate run .

In 1964 he was German champion with the 4 x 100 meter relay of ASV Köln, in 1963 and 1964 German runner-up over 400 meters.

Schmitt started for the ASV Cologne sports club . In his playing days he was 1.79 m tall and weighed 67 kg.
