Jacques Degats

Jacques Degats ( Jacques Léopold Degats; born February 20, 1930 in Vendrest , † March 29, 2015 in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours ) was a French sprinter .

In 1951 he won gold over 400 meters and silver over 200 meters at the Mediterranean Games .

At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952, he was sixth in the 4-by-400-meter relay and reached the quarter-finals over 400 meters .

In 1954 he won the European Championships in Bern together with Jean-Pierre Goudeau , Pierre Haarhoff and Jean-Paul Martin du Gard in the 4 x 400 meter relay . Over 400 meters he was disqualified in the final.

In 1955 he defended his title over 400 meters at the Mediterranean Games with his personal best of 47.3 s. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956, he was eliminated over 400 meters in the quarter-finals and in the 4-by-400-meter relay in the preliminary run.

In 1951, 1954 and 1957 he was French champion over 400 meters.
