Bernd Herrmann (athlete)

Bernhard Erich Herrmann (born November 22, 1951 in Hohenkirchen ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic - was successful as a 400-meter runner in the 1970s . He achieved his greatest successes with the 4 x 400 meter relay : in 1976 he won Olympic bronze, in 1978 he became European champion.

  • 1972: Olympic Games : fourth place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 00.9 min)
  • 1974: European Championships : third place in the 400-meter run (45.78 s). He was involved in the run-up to the 4-by-400-meter relay, which took second place, but was injured afterwards and could not start in the finals.
  • 1976: Olympic Games : third place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 01.98 min, together with Franz-Peter Hofmeister , Lothar Krieg and Harald Schmid ; Bernd Herrmann as final runner); Eliminated in the 400-meter run in the semifinals
  • 1978: European Championships : first place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 02.0 min, together with Martin Weppler , Franz-Peter Hofmeister and Harald Schmid; Bernd Herrmann as third runner); 400-meter run: seventh place

In 1974 , 1975 and 1977 Herrmann was German champion over 400 meters and in 1979 German champion in 400 meter hurdles . He was also three times German indoor champion over 400 meters. With the 4 x 400 meter relay at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, he was multiple German champions between 1972 and 1981.

Bernd Herrmann was a member of SV 04 Bayer Leverkusen . In his playing days he was 1.93 m tall and weighed 81 kg.
