John Wrighton

John Derek Wrighton (born March 10, 1933 ) is a retired British athlete . With a height of 1.88 m, his competition weight was 80 kg.

In July 1958, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Cardiff . John Wrighton finished fifth over 440 yards in the final. with the English 4-by-440-yard relay he won silver behind the relay from South Africa.

A month later, the 1958 European Championships took place in Stockholm . In the 400-meter run , John Wrighton won with a new British record of 46.3 s ahead of John Salisbury (46.5 s), who had finished fourth over the yards in Cardiff. The British 4 x 400 meter relay with the line-up Ted Sampson , John MacIsaac , Wrighton and Salisbury won in 3: 07.9 minutes ahead of the relay teams from the Federal Republic of Germany and Sweden.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Wrighton was eliminated over 400 meters in the quarter-finals. The British season finished fifth in the final after 3: 08.3 min.
