Ekkehard to Megede

Ekkehard Albrecht zur Megede (born November 19, 1926 in Reetz in der Neumark , † February 24, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German sports journalist and publicist.

Life

After attending secondary school in Arnswalde, he completed an internship at the newspaper Der Tagesspiegel in Berlin from 1946 , after which he was an editor there. From 1950 to 1963 he was the editor of the specialist newspaper Leichtathletik . From 1963 until his retirement in 1990 he was back at the Tagesspiegel . He also published in other newspapers, occasionally using the pseudonym Ehm Ohm . In addition, he wrote a four-volume standard work on the history of Olympic athletics.

In 1950, Zur Megede co-founded the Association of Track and Field Statisticans , the global association of athletics statisticians. On behalf of the World Athletics Federation IAAF , he compiled the first detailed list of the development of the world records in athletics.

Ekkehard zur Megede died in February 2005 at the age of 78 in Berlin. His grave is in the state's own cemetery in Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: II-Ur 8-85).
