Stanisław Grędziński (born October 19, 1945 in Ostrzyca , Powiat Krasnostawski , Poland) is a former Polish athlete .

Career

Stanisław Grędziński won two titles at his first major international appearance at the 1966 European Championships in Budapest. In the 400-meter run , he was European champion in 46.0 s ahead of his compatriot Andrzej Badeński and Manfred Kinder from the Federal Republic of Germany. The final of the 4 x 400 meter relay took place three days later . In the line-up of Jan Werner , Edmund Borowski , Andrzej Badeński and Stanisław Grędziński as the final runner, the Polish relay won a new national record of 3: 04.5 minutes ahead of the two German relay teams.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, Stanisław Grędziński was the starting runner of the Polish relay. Behind the relays from the United States and Kenya, the relays from Germany and Poland fought an exciting fight to the finish line, where the German final runner Martin Jellinghaus had a hundredth of a second ahead of Andrzej Badeński. The Polish season was only fourth in 3: 00.58 min.

In the following year at the European Championships in Athens in 1969 Stanisław Grędziński won bronze in the individual competition in 45.8 s behind Jan Werner and the French Jean-Claude Nallet . Jan Balachowski started the season , Stanisław Grędziński handed over the baton to Andrzej Badeński and Jan Werner was the last runner. The French won before the squadrons from the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Germany. Stanisław Grędziński had his last start at major international championships at the 1970 European Indoor Championships in Vienna. In the 4-by-2-round relay Jan Werner, Grędziński, Balachowski and Badeński were second behind the relay from the Soviet Union.

Stanisław Grędziński was Polish champion over 400 meters in 1966 and 1969. His best performance was 45.83 s. With a height of 1.78 m, his competition weight was 73 kg.
