Derek Pugh

Derek Charles Pugh (born February 8, 1926 - † May 2, 2008 in Tooting ) was a British athlete .

In 1946 the first European championships took place in Oslo after the Second World War. In the 400-meter run , the Dane Niels Holst-Sørensen won in 47.9 s ahead of the French Jacques Lunis in 48.3 s, Derek Pugh came third in 48.9 s. Two days later, the British four-by-400-meter relay won silver in 3: 14.5 minutes, one tenth of a second behind the French relay.

At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , Pugh was eliminated over 400 meters in the quarter-finals. The British season failed in advance.

In February 1950 at the British Empire Games in Auckland, Pugh finished fourth over 440 yards . The English four-by-440-yard relay won silver behind Australia. At the European Championships in Brussels in August 1950 , Pugh won the European title over 400 meters in 47.3 s ahead of Jacques Lunis. The British season with Martin Pike , Leslie Lewis , Angus Scott and Derek Pugh as final runners won in 3: 10.2 minutes ahead of the seasons from Italy and Sweden.

Derek Pugh was the 440 yard champion of the Amateur Athletic Association in 1949 and 1951 .
