Hartmut Weber (athlete)

Hartmut Weber (born October 17, 1960 in Kamen ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic - was a successful 400-meter runner in the 1980s . He became double European champion in individual races and in the relay in 1982 and won the world championship silver in the relay in 1983.

career path

After his sports career, the graduate in administration initially worked as a tax auditor. He has been employed by the German Handball Federation since 2003, where he is particularly responsible for finance.

Hartmut Weber is a board member of the Friends of Athletics and, in cooperation with the German Athletics Association , has been in charge of a nationwide project to promote young athletes on the stadium circuit since 2013 .

Athletic career

Weber was German champion in the 400 meter and 400 meter hurdles in the youth division . At the European Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz in 1979 he won over 400 meters and gold with the 4 x 400 meter relay . In the adult category, he won the European Cup in Turin with the DLV relay . The following year, at the age of nineteen, he was a member of the relay that was the fastest in the world of the year, but did not start at the Olympic Games in Moscow because of the boycott .

In 1981 he won over 400 meters at the European Cup in Zagreb . At the World Cup in Rome he started for the team of Europe and finished fourth over 400 meters and second in the relay. The following year he won the European Championships in Athens both individually and with the DLV quartet. In Athens Weber also set his personal best over 400 meters with 44.72 seconds. In 1983 he won again at the European Cup, which was held in London . At the World Championships in Rome he was fifth and won the silver medal with the DLV relay. He was nominated for the 1984 Olympic Games . Due to an injury, however, he had to leave Los Angeles early .

Hartmut Weber was German indoor champion over 400 meters in 1981, 1983 and 1984 and in 1982 he was German indoor champion with the 4 x 400 meter relay . In the open air Weber won the championship title over 400 meters in 1981 and 1983 and in 1980, 1982 and 1984 the runner-up behind Erwin Skamrahl .

In his playing days he was 1.86 m tall and weighed 70 kg.

Weber initially belonged to VfL Kamen , from 1977 to OSC Dortmund and from 1983 back to VfL Kamen.
