TISUS ( Test i svenska för universitets- och Högskolestudier , test in Swedish for university and college studies) is a standardized Swedish language test . In structure and function, it is similar to the English TOEFL . Most foreign applicants must pass the TISUS to attend a Swedish universities and colleges , a study to be allowed to begin. Exchange students who only complete part of their studies in Sweden do not usually have to take the test.

Registration and implementation

Registration for TISUS is chargeable. Currently (October 2017) the fee for the whole test is 2000 Swedish kronor , for a partial test 1000 Swedish kronor. The test is carried out at seven Swedish university and college locations as well as at some German universities, mostly twice a year, in May and November.

It consists of three parts:

  • läsförståelse (reading comprehension)
  • skreiblig färdighet (written skills)
  • muntlig färdighet (oral skills)

The first two parts are carried out by hand. The oral part is a conversation in which one or two examiners talk to several examinees about a given topic about which the participants have been informed a few days beforehand. It is not the factual knowledge of the examinees that is assessed, but their linguistic ability.

Result

The result is the grades godkänd (passed) and underkänd (not passed). Finer gradations are generally not made. As a supplement to the certificate, however, the examinees receive a breakdown of how they performed in the individual parts; In each part, a maximum of five points (a total of 15) can be achieved, of which three must be obtained in order for the relevant part to be considered passed. If you fail part of the test, you only have to repeat this part to get the overall result godkänd . If two parts are failed, the entire test must be repeated.
