Brian Whittle (born April 24, 1964 in Ayr ) is a former British athlete who specialized in the 400 meter run .

Whittle won at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart together with Derek Redmond , Kriss Akabusi and Roger Black the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay . He only had to walk his lap on one shoe after losing the other when taking over the relay stick from Abukasi. Nevertheless, the British team achieved a championship record with a time of 2: 59.84 minutes.

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Budapest in 1988 Whittle was second in the 400-meter run. In the same year he took part in the Olympic Games in Seoul . With the British 4 x 400 meter relay, he finished fifth, over 400 meters he reached the semi-finals. In 1989 he won another silver medal in the 400-meter run at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in The Hague . Two weeks later he was fifth at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Budapest over the same distance. At the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 , he finished second in the relay with the Scottish team.

In the meantime Whittle tried harder in the 800-meter run , albeit less successfully than at half the distance. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 , he missed the finals, at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Genoa in 1992 , he finished sixth. Whittle completed his international career with his second European title. At the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1994 , he won together with David McKenzie , Roger Black and Du'aine Ladejo in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

Brian Whittle is 1.90 m tall and weighed 77 kg during his playing days. He is married and has three daughters.
