Ayr ( Gaelic Inbhir Àir ) is a town in the south-west of Scotland , on the Firth of Clyde , where the River Ayr flows into it. It is the capital of traditional Ayrshire and the administrative seat of the South Ayrshire Council Area . In the 2011 census survey, Ayr had 46,849 people.
history
Ayr is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galloway , which can look back on over 1,600 years of history. Episcopal Church is St Margaret's Cathedral .
On April 26, 1315, the first Scottish Parliament was opened by Robert the Bruce in Ayr . It was known as Inverair or Inverayr , which is still evident today in the Gaelic form of the name Inbhir Àir .

The University of the West of Scotland has one of its four locations in Ayr (next to Paisley , Hamilton and Dumfries ).

Ayr United is the city's football club. He will play in the Scottish Second Division for the 2018/19 season .
