Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske

Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske , b. as Horst-Rüdiger Pfau (born January 1, 1946 in Berlin ), is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who - starting for the Federal Republic of Germany - was one of the world's best 400-meter runners in the late 1960s and early 1970s .

Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske belonged to the sports club ASV Berlin from 1969 , then to the LG North Berlin in 1970 and 1971 and from 1972 he started for TSV Siemensstadt Berlin , for which he also took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 1968, his coach Hermann Schlöske adopted the athlete who was then still under his birth name Horst-Rüdiger Pfau. In his playing days he was 1.77 m tall and weighed 66 kg.

Schlöske won medals in three participations in the European Athletics Championships . He had his greatest success at the European Championships in 1971 , when he was European champion with the 4 x 400 meter relay in the cast Schlöske, Jordan , Jellinghaus , Köhler , in 1974 he won silver together with Rolf Ziegler , Hermann Köhler and Karl Honz . At the European Championships in 1969 he had already won a bronze medal together with Ingo Röper , Gerhard Hennige and Martin Jellinghaus.

For his success as a 4-by-400-meter relay runner, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf on April 14, 1972.

He was denied a medal in the individual race, in 1974 he was eliminated in the intermediate run over 400 meters. At the 1972 Olympic Games , Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske was the best German quarter-pile. In the final over 400 meters he was the best European in fifth place, he just missed a podium in the relay when Germany finished fourth behind Kenya, Great Britain and France.

In 1977 Schlöske married in Berlin. After completing his active career, he initially worked as a trainer and trained as a masseur on the side. This was followed by training as a naturopath, which he practiced in his own practice in Berlin until 1991. He has lived in La Orotava on Tenerife since 1992 . There he runs a healing center. His son Roberto Schlöske (LG Nike Berlin) was also a successful runner at the beginning of the 2000s, both over the 400 meter flat and the 400 meter hurdles.
