Gerhard Hennige

Gerhard Hennige (born September 23, 1940 in Karlsruhe ) is a former German athlete and Olympic medalist who was one of the world's best 400-meter hurdlers from 1966 to 1971 .

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , he won two medals for the Federal Republic : In his special discipline, he came second in 49.0 s and with the 4 x 400 meter relay he was third (together with Helmar Müller , Manfred Children and Martin Jellinghaus / Gerhard Hennige as second runner).

For this he was awarded the silver bay leaf on November 27, 1968.

Also at the European Athletics Championships in 1969 he won the bronze medal with the relay of the Federal Republic (together with Horst-Rüdiger Schlöske , Ingo Röper and Martin Jellinghaus / Gerhard Hennige as third runner).

Hennige never became German champion over the 400 meter hurdles, but was runner-up four times in a row (1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970). For this he won the championship title three times with the 4 x 400 meter relay (1967, 1968 and 1969).

Hennige grew up in Aulendorf in Baden-Württemberg , where he started with athletics at SG Aulendorf. He then started for Karlsruher SC , then for ASV Köln , for Bayer 04 Leverkusen and from 1969 for ASC Darmstadt . With a height of 1.89 m, his competition weight was 82 kg.

Until 2004, the qualified sports teacher then worked as a full-time teacher at the University Sports Center of TU Darmstadt . At the end of the 1990s, he was also the fitness coach of Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher .
