Daniel Caines

Daniel Caines ( Daniel Stephen Caines ; born May 15, 1979 in Solihull ) is a former English athlete who was successful in the 400-meter run and with the British and English 4-by-400-meter relay .

At the European Indoor Championships in Ghent in 2000, Caines was sixth over 400 meters. He was eliminated at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in the semi-finals, the British season was sixth with Caines. In Lisbon at the 2001 World Indoor Championships , Caines won the 400 meters in 46.4 s ahead of the American Milton Campbell in 46.45 s.

In 2002 Caines finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna over 200 meters in 21.14 s after running his personal best of 20.62 s in the semifinals. The 2002 Commonwealth Games took place in Manchester at the end of July. Over 400 meters, Caines finished fourth in 45.13 s, one hundredth of a second behind the Bahamian Avard Moncur . In the season, Caines as the final runner of the English and the Welshman Matthew Elias delivered a fight to the finish line. The English won in 3: 00.40 minutes ahead of the Welsh in 3: 00.41 minutes. The British relay for the European Championships in Munich was composed of two runners each from the English and Welsh relay. Eleven days after the Manchester final, Jared Deacon , Matthew Elias, Jamie Baulch and Daniel Caines won in 3: 01.25 minutes ahead of the Russian season. Three days earlier, Caines had won bronze in 45.28 s, behind the German Ingo Schultz in 45.14 s and the Spaniard David Canal in 45.24 s.

At the 2003 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , Caines won silver in 45.43 s behind the American Tyree Washington in 45.34 s. The British relay with Baulch and Caines won bronze behind the USA and Jamaica. At the 2003 World Championships , the British season finished fifth, which was later improved to fourth after the disqualification of the originally victorious US season.

Daniel Caines was a member of the Birchfield Harriers association. With a height of 1.78 m, his competition weight was 74 kg.
