Music and lyrics
It's a faster song, played with undistorted guitars, which has some resemblance to Moonlight Shadow . The text is about a woman who dies on a "bright day"; one reference is Oldfield's mother Maureen, who died in January 1974 and can also be seen on the cover of the single. Previously, Oldfield had dedicated a song to his late mother, In dulci jubilo (for Maureen) , 1975. However, the name of the woman is given in the song as "Elizabeth Jane"; here Oldfield has apparently woven another story into the lyrics.
