Lydia Lopokova

Lydia Lopokova (originally Russian Лидия Васильевна Лопухова / Lidija Wassiljewna Lopuchowa ; after marriage to Baroness Keynes ; born  October 21, 1892 in Saint Petersburg ; † June 8, 1981 in Tilton, Firle , East Sussex ) was a Russian ballet dancer .

Life

Lopokova was trained at the Imperial Ballet School of the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg. In 1910 she went to Paris to join Dyagilev's Ballets Russes . Over the course of her career, she kept returning to the Ballets Russes . Her friends included such well-known personalities as Vaslav Nijinsky , Stravinsky and Pablo Picasso , who immortalized her in a few drawings.

Lopokova was married twice, her first marriage to the ballet manager Randolfo Barrocchi and from 1925 to 1946 to the economist John Maynard Keynes . After the death of her second husband, she lived very secluded in England .
