The 24th European Athletics Indoor Championships took place from March 8 to 10, 1996 in the Stockholm Globe Arena in Stockholm . Sweden hosted the event for the third time since 1974 and 1984.

Athletes from 44 nations took part, and a total of 25,000 spectators followed the competitions on site. For the first time at the European Indoor Athletics Championships, the pole vault was also included in the women's program.
