Sylvia Kühnemund

Sylvia Kühnemund , married Thier , (born July 25, 1974 in Sangerhausen ) is a former German middle-distance runner who specialized in the 1,500 meter run .

From 1995 to 2000 she was German indoor champion six times in a row. Outdoors, she won the title in 1996 and 1997. At the European Indoor Championships in Stockholm in 1996 , she was sixth. At the Olympic Games , which took place in Atlanta that same year, Kühnemund was eliminated in the interim. In 1997 she reached fifth place at the World Indoor Championships in Paris, but at the World Championships in Athens she was eliminated in advance. At the European Indoor Championships in Valencia in 1998 she was fourth, just a tenth of a second behind bronze medalist Violeta Szekely , and at the 1999 World Indoor Championships in Maebashi, Japan, she was ninth.

Kühnemund started for MK Sangerhausen (1983-87), SC Chemie Halle (1988-90), SV Halle (1991-98) and the Halle Athletics Friends (from 1999). She married her trainer Wolfgang Thier in 2001.
