Mike Maczey

Mike Maczey (born September 28, 1972 in Schleswig ) is a former German decathlete .

Career

Maczey began his career with TWG Schleswig Geest , from 1992 to 1997 he competed for TSV Böklund and in 1998 switched to the team decathlon wave Schleswig-Holstein . In 1993 Maczey was German junior champion in the decathlon, in 1997 with 7910 points and in 1999 with 8104 points he won the German championships in the adult class. At the European Indoor Championships in 1996 he finished seventh in the heptathlon, two years later he reached ninth place and with 6015 points exceeded the 6000 point mark for the only time in his career. Maczey was also able to place himself twice in the decathlon at European Championships: in 1998 in Budapest he reached eighth place with 8174 points, in 2002 in Munich he was sixth with 8158 points.

Maczey completed his best decathlon on June 3rd and 4th, 2000 at the Götzis all-around meeting , when he reached 8461 points and still only finished seventh. At the 2000 Olympic Games , he finished 25th with 7229 points after falling in the 110-meter hurdles.

At the end of 2004, the 1.88 m tall policeman ended his career as a competitive athlete. In his career he surpassed the 8000 point mark in twelve decathlons.
