Erik Wijmeersch (born January 23, 1970 in Sint-Niklaas ) is a former Belgian sprinter .

career

At the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , he was eliminated over 200 m in the preliminary run. In 1996 he won the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Stockholm over 200 m. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and at the 1997 World Championships in Athens, he reached the quarter-finals over 100 m and 200 m.

In 1998 he was disqualified in the semi-finals at the European Championships in Budapest over 200 m. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville, he failed both over 100 m and over 200 m in the first round. Even at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, he did not get over 200 m beyond the heat. In 2006 he reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Gothenburg over 100 m.

In total he was four times Belgian champion over 100 m (1996, 1998, 2002, 2008) and five times over 200 m (1995, 1997-1999, 2001). In the hall he won the national title over 60 m four times (1998, 1999, 2001, 2005) and six times over 200 m (1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001).

Erik Wijmeersch is 1.86 meters tall and weighs 80 kg. He last started for AC Waasland and was trained by Patrick Himschoot until 2005.

doping

In his biography in 2008 he confessed that he had used various doping substances between 1998 and 2001 . The relevant disciplinary committee rejected the request to impose a ban on him in 2009, citing the long period of time that had passed since then.
