Dohňany (until 1927 Slovak also Dohnany ; Hungarian Donány or older Dohnan ) is a municipality and a town in the northwest of Slovakia , with a population of 1,868 (as of December 31, 2019). He belongs to the Okres Púchov within the higher administrative unit Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
Dohňany is located in the Biela voda valley , right between the White Carpathians in the west and the Javorníky in the northeast. Distances to some cities: Púchov 4 km, Považská Bystrica 19 km, Trenčín 42 km, Žilina 52 km.
In addition to Dohňany itself, the municipality also includes the districts of Mostište and Zbora (incorporated in 1979) and other individual farms in the mountains.
history
In today's municipality there was a settlement of the Puchau culture documented in the 19th century . The present place is mentioned for the first time in 1471 on a document of the Lednica Castle estate as Dohnanye . The characteristic settlement of the surrounding hills in scattered settlement dates from the time of Wallachian colonization in the 16th century.
