history

Settlement of today's place goes back to the 13th century, when a church in Romanesque style, probably built in 1228, stood here. The original place including the church was plundered during the Mongol storm in 1241 by the Mongols advancing from the Lisbon Pass .

The rebuilt place Lúky was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1471 as Lwchky or Welyke Lwchky and was then part of the dominion of Lednica Castle . In 1598 the place was called Luky Walachorum because of the Wallachian colonization of the area. In 1828 there were 112 houses and 953 residents who were employed as shepherds and workers in the local sawmill. At the time of the abolition of serfdom in 1848, the owners came from the Erdődy family.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic , the inhabitants were farmers, wire ties and basket makers and commuted to southern Slovakia as seasonal workers. There was also a steam bakery and a quarry in the village. In 1937 Lúky was connected to the railway network through the Púchov – Horní Lideč railway . Shortly before the end of World War II, the synagogue built in 1872 was destroyed by the Wehrmacht.

The place name literally means "meadows".
