Zubák (Hungarian Trencsénfogas - until 1907 Zubák ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia , with 836 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Púchov , part of the Trenčiansky kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the White Carpathians in the wooded upper valley of the Zubák brook , near the border with the Czech Republic . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 430  m nm and is 19 kilometers from Púchov .

Neighboring municipalities are Záriečie in the north, Mestečko in the northeast, Dohňany in the east, Horná Breznica in the southeast, Lednica in the south, Študlov and Střelná (both in the Czech Republic) in the west and Lysá pod Makytou in the northwest.

history

Zubák was first mentioned in writing in 1471 as Zwbaky , other historical names are Zwbak (1475) and Zubak (1598). The village was in the dominion of Lednica Castle . In 1598 there were 12 houses in the village, in 1720 it had a mill and 24 taxpayers. In 1784 the village had 154 houses, 173 families and 923 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 144 houses and 1237 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and forest workers.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Zubák had 876 inhabitants, including 864 Slovaks , four Czechs and one Magyar . Seven residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

811 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 12 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church; one resident professed a different denomination. 18 residents had no denomination and 33 residents had no denomination.
