Streženice (Hungarian Kebeles - until 1907 Sztrezsenic ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia , with 1044 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Púchov , part of Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The community is located in the Považské podolie valley on the eastern edge of the White Carpathians on the right bank of the Waag , just below the mouth of the Biela voda into the river. Two small brooks flow through the place, namely the Kebliansky potok and the Štepnický potok . There are three mineral springs, two on the western edge of the main town and one in the hamlet of Keblie . The highest point is the Keblie hill at 546 m nm. The center of the village is at an altitude of 260 m nm and is two and a half kilometers from Púchov .
Neighboring municipalities are Púchov in the north and east, Dolné Kočkovce in the southeast, Lednické Rovne in the south and Horná Breznica in the west.
history
Streženice was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1408 as Stresnycza and belonged to the dominion of Lednica Castle . In 1598 there were 34 houses in the village, in 1720 17 taxpayers lived here. In 1784 the village had 45 houses, 60 households and 311 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 48 houses and 371 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Streženice had 912 inhabitants, 856 of whom were Slovaks , three Moravians and three Czechs , two Poles and one Russian . 47 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
686 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 105 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each to the Brother Church, the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church; six residents professed a different denomination. 36 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 73 residents was not determined.
