Záriečie (1927–1973 Slovak "Zariečie" - until 1927 "Zarieč"; Hungarian Felsőzáros - until 1907 Zárjecs ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia , with 695 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Púchov , part of the Trenčiansky kraj , heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the valley of the Biela voda river between the White Carpathians and the Javorníky Mountains , near the border with the Czech Republic . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 333  m nm and is nine kilometers from Púchov .

Neighboring communities are Vydrná in the north, Mestečko in the east and south, Zubák in the south-west and west and Lúky in the north-west.

history

Záriečie was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1475 as Zaryecze and belonged to the dominion of Lednica Castle . In 1598 there were 21 houses in Záriečie, in 1784 the village had 116 houses, 130 families and 704 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 125 houses and 806 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and cattle herders.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today's Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, in addition to traditional main sources of income, some of the residents worked as tanners, weavers and carpenters, among other things.

According to the 2011 census, Záriečie had 691 residents, 660 of whom were Slovaks and one each was Poles , Czechs and Ukrainians . 28 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

485 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 145 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Apostolic Church. 23 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 34 residents was not determined.

traffic

Mestečko is on the 1st order road between Púchov and the Czech border near Lysá pod Makytou and on the Púchov – Horní Lideč railway line with a stop in town.
