Beluša (German rarely Bellusch , Hungarian Bellus ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia . It is located in the northern parts of the Ilavská kotlina basin ("Ilava Basin") and is one of the largest communities in the Waag Valley.

The community was first mentioned in writing as terra Belos in 1330 . In 1439 it was mentioned as belonging to the Trenčín rulership , in 1534 it was mentioned as a customs post, and in 1659 the town was granted market rights. A castle, which also serves as the seat of the county rulers, was built at the beginning of the 16th century, but fell victim to a fire in 1723. At the beginning of the 19th century the first basket making school of the Kingdom of Hungary was opened in the village.

The municipality in Trenčín County was part of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1948 a non-ferrous metal foundry is opened in the village.

Today, the municipality is divided into the main town of Hloža and Podhorie, which were incorporated in 1976 .

The late Romanesque-early Gothic church of St. Anne from the second half of the 13th century is well worth seeing . Next to it is the Catholic Church from 1560, which was converted to Baroque style in the 18th century.
