Dolná Breznica (Hungarian Alsónyiresd - until 1907 Alsóbreznic or Alsóbrezsnic ) is a municipality in northwest Slovakia with 998 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Púchov , part of the Trenčiansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the White Carpathians in the lower part of the Lednická dolina , by the Lednica brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 296 m nm and is ten kilometers from Púchov .
Neighboring municipalities are Horná Breznica in the north, Lednické Rovne in the east and south-east, Horovce in the south, Kvašov in the west and Lednica in the north-west.
history
The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1388 as Breznycze . At first the village was owned by the Horváth family , later it was part of the Lednica Castle . In 1598 there were 27 houses here. In 1784 the village had 32 houses, 34 families and 152 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 33 houses and 358 inhabitants who were mainly employed as farmers and fruit growers.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today's Slovakia.
From 1980 to 1990 Dolná Breznica was merged with the neighboring village Horná Breznica to form the municipality of Breznica.

According to the 2011 census, there were 857 inhabitants in Dolná Breznica, 814 of them Slovaks and one Czech . 42 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
778 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church. Six residents had no denomination and 63 residents had no denomination.
