Kvašov (Hungarian Kvassó ) is a municipality in northwest Slovakia , with 652 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Púchov , part of the Trenčiansky kraj .

geography

The community is located in the northern part of the White Carpathians in the valley of the stream of the same name. The center of the village is at an altitude of 315  m nm and is 13 kilometers from Ilava and 15 kilometers from Púchov .

Neighboring municipalities are Lednica in the north, Dolná Breznica in the east, Horovce and Dulov in the south and Mikušovce in the west.

history

In the municipality of Kvašov, a settlement of the Lusatian culture of the Young Bronze Age and the Puchau culture of the Roman period were discovered.

The current place was first mentioned in writing in 1471 as Quazzow , at that time as part of the estate of the nearby Lednica Castle . In 1598 there was a mill and 28 houses here. In 1784 the village had 69 houses, 73 families and 376 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 61 houses and 427 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as carters and farmers.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today's Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Kvašov had 671 inhabitants, 644 of whom were Slovaks . 27 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

616 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Pentecostal movement. Two residents were without a denomination and the denomination of 47 residents was not determined.
