Attractions
- Castillo de Cornatel
Castle in the municipality of Priaranza del Bierzo, which was first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Castillo de Cornatel , in the 15th century it fell victim to the clashes of the Revuelta Irmandiña . After it was rebuilt, it passed through the hands of various feudal lords before the last owners handed it over to the Villavieja municipality in 1900. One theory holds it possible that previous buildings were used for military purposes at least since Roman times . The theory is controversial, if it were true, had military installations at this location served the Romans , Visigoths , the Christian warriors of the Reconquista and the Knights Templar . The name of the predecessor castle is the Castelo de Ulver , which can no longer be located today .
The Castillo de Cornatel is the setting for the romantic chivalric novel El Señor de Bembibre by Enrique Gil y Carrasco .
