Bercianos del Real Camino is a small town on the Camino de Santiago in the province of León in the Autonomous Community of Castile and León .

The village is on one of two variants of the Camino Francés in this area. While the alternative route follows the Roman Via Traiana a little further north , this route is "more recent" but is mentioned in medieval documents about the pilgrimage to St. James. Under Charles III. (Spain) this road becomes the Camino Real (Royal Road), that is, the road of the first order. The place received the first part of the name from the settlers from the Bierzo - the Bercianos - who settled here after the reconquest of the area.

Coming from Calzada del Coto , shortly before Bercianos, you will come across the Hermitage of the Virgen de Perales. It was given to the O Cebreiro Monastery at the end of the 12th century . The Perales Virgin is venerated here and is called La Perala by the residents of the area .

The Church of the Redeemer (Iglesia del Salvador) stood on a hill in which many storage cellars called bodega are dug. Shortly after the church was closed for restoration, the tower collapsed in 1998 due to structural damage and buried the rest of the church under itself. Inside the church were a baroque altar, a Renaissance statue of John the Baptist and the tomb (16th / 17th century) of the former landlady, Doña Leonor de Quiñones.
A new church is currently being built on the outskirts, but due to uncertain finances the completion is not in sight. The bells were hung in a free-standing steel structure not far from the shell.
