Hontanas is a village on the Camino de Santiago in the province of Burgos in the autonomous community of Castile and León .
history
The place name refers to the good water supply of the village through various springs and developed by shifting consonants from "Fontanas" to "Hontanas".
The former pilgrim hospice “Hospital de San Juan” or “Meson de los Franceses” ( French House ) is evidence of the long connection between the place and the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela . It has been restored and is now used again as a pilgrimage hostel. In addition, Domenico Laffi mentions the place in his pilgrimage report.
