Arandilla is a northern Spanish city and a municipality ( municipio ) with only 160 inhabitants (at January 1, 2019) in the southern Spanish province of Burgos in the autonomous region of Castilla-Leon . The place belongs to the poorly populated region of the Serranía Celtibérica .

Location and climate

The place Arandilla is about 100 km (driving distance) southeast of the provincial capital Burgos on the northwest bank of the Río Arandilla at an altitude of about 890  m . The next larger town, Peñaranda de Duero , is about 8 km (driving distance) in a south-westerly direction. It is a further 18 km to the west to Aranda de Duero . The listed town of Coruña del Conde (5 km northeast) is also worth seeing . The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 490 mm / year) falls over the year.

The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms have led to a significant decline in the number of inhabitants since the middle of the 20th century.

economy

The small town was and is largely characterized by agriculture; Mainly wheat and barley are grown . The place is part of the Ribera del Duero wine region . Since the middle of the 20th century, tourism in the form of renting out holiday homes (casas rurales) has been an important source of income for the municipality.

history

There are no traces of Celtic , Roman , Visigoth and even Moorish settlement. The place is likely in the course of the resettlement or new settlement ( repoblación ) after the reconquest ( reconquista ) of the areas north of the Duero in 10/11. Century.

Ermita San Isidro
  • The single nave Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary . It has a two-part bell gable ( espadaña ) with ornamental obelisks .
