The mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the associated loss of jobs have led to a significant decline in the number of inhabitants since the middle of the 20th century ( rural exodus ).

economy

The inhabitants of the rural community live mainly from agriculture (agriculture, cattle breeding and viticulture); the community is part of the Arlanza (DO) wine-growing region . Since the 1960s, the summer rental of holiday homes (casas rurales) has also played a certain economic role.

history

Almost nothing is known about the origins of the place. A Celtic castrum from around 200 BC. BC was discovered not far from the border to the neighboring town of Castrillo de Solarana , but the finds are sparse. Roman , Visigoth and even Moorish traces are missing. On March 25, 1608, Philip III sold the manorial rule (señorio) over Solarana and more than 300 other places to Francisco Gómez de Sandoval y Rojas , the Duke of Lerma.

Attractions

  • The small but three-aisled Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Century made of rubble stones on the site of a previous medieval building, of which the portal is still preserved; the bell tower (campanario) , made of precisely hewn stones, rises above the apse and is a later addition. Inside, the baroque main altar from 1755 is impressive.
  • In front of the town hall on the Plaza Mayor there is a court column (roller blind) .
  • A small museum with finds and tools from the region has been set up in the Ermita de San Miguel .
