The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms have led to a shortage of jobs since the 1950s and, as a result, to a large part of the population moving to the cities ( rural exodus ).
economy
The region has been shaped almost exclusively by agriculture for centuries; Animal husbandry is of great importance . Tourism (rental of holiday apartments) is also playing an increasingly important role.
history
Finds from the Celtic , Roman , Visigothic and even from the Islamic - Moorish period have not yet been made in the municipality. At the end of the 9th century, the area was recaptured ( reconquista ) and repopulated ( repoblación ) by Diego Rodríguez Porcelos (ruled 873-885), the second count of Castile and founder of Burgos . The first written mention of the place name Frandovitiz comes from the year 963. As early as the end of the 12th century, a long-term connection between the place and the nearby monastery Las Huelgas was established . In 1555 it was sold to a private landlord family (señores) .
Attractions
- The single-nave Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel , surrounded by a churchyard, stands on the outskirts; it originally dates from the 16th century, but in the years 1823–1825 the vault and other parts of the church were completely rebuilt. Only the Renaissance portal of the late Gothic church is still preserved; it shows a figure of the Archangel Michael . The gilded altarpiece (retablo) dates from 1766; also here the central figure is the dragon-slaying archangel Michael.
- The casona in the immediate vicinity of the church was a late medieval granary or tithe barn . The building, of which only the outer walls have been preserved, now serves as the community's event room - after a new roof was put on.
- The town hall (ayuntamiento) is a new building from the beginning of the 21st century; the square in the center of the village was also redesigned during this time.
- Surroundings
- At the edge of the fields in the vicinity of the village there are still some stone huts built using drywall construction , which mainly served as shelters for the field guards before and during the harvest.
