The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms have already led to a lack of jobs and a migration of a large part of the population to the cities since the 1930s ( rural exodus ). The municipality also includes the hamlets (pedanías) Hiniestra and San Juan de Ortega , which have only about 2 and 22 inhabitants respectively .

economy

The region has been shaped almost exclusively by agriculture for centuries; Animal husbandry is of great importance . Tourism (rental of holiday apartments) only plays a subordinate role.

history

Finds from the Celtic , Roman , Visigothic and even from the Islamic - Moorish period have not yet been made in the municipality. It is believed that the establishment of the place goes back to the operation of the second Count of Castile , Diego Rodríguez Porcelos (r. 873-885), who tried hard to repopulate ( repoblación ) the area. The first mention of the place name Colina comes from the year 991; The names of the two hamlets and other, long-abandoned villages are also mentioned in documents from the 10th century.
