Because of the mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms, the population of the community fell significantly in the second half of the 20th century; on the other hand, the proximity to the city of Burgos and the comparatively low land prices in rural areas have had a positive effect on the number of inhabitants.

economy

The region has been largely shaped by agriculture for centuries. The community has now almost become a suburb of Burgos. Tourism (rental of holiday apartments) only plays a subordinate role.

history

It is believed that the place or a small fortress was built by the Castilian Count Diego Rodríguez Porcelos , the founder of the city of Burgos, on the orders of King Alfonso III. (ruled 866–910).
