economy
The region has been shaped almost exclusively by agriculture for centuries; Animal husbandry is of great importance . Tourism (rental of holiday apartments) is also playing an increasingly important role.
history
Finds from the Celtic , Roman , Visigothic and even from the Islamic - Moorish period have not yet been made in the municipality. It is believed that the establishment of the place as well as that of the other villages in the area goes back to the instigation of the second Count of Castile , Diego Rodríguez Porcelos (r. 873-885), who - after the displacement of the Moors - strongly around the Resettlement ( repoblación ) of the area endeavored. In the Middle Ages the place belonged to the approx. 25 km north located monastery of Valpuesta .
Attractions
- Bozoó
- The local parish church, built of smoothed quarry stones , is the hll. Dedicated to Julian and Basilissa . The portal and the barrel-vaulted nave are Romanesque, while the almost free-standing bell gable (espadaña) with a passage was added later on the south side of the facade ; the choir area supported by buttresses and the apse were renewed in the 16th century and significantly enlarged compared to the nave. The lavishly designed south portal with its multi-pass arch is the eye-catcher of the church.
- The Ermita de San Sebastián , newly built in the 18th century, stands on the outskirts.
- Villanueva Soportilla
- The church in the hamlet of Villanueva Soportilla is half crumbled.
