Villarcayo de Merindad de Castilla la Vieja is a municipality in the north of the province of Burgos in the autonomous region of Castile and León , 75 km north of the provincial capital of Burgos .

history

The airfield near Villarcayo was also used by parts of the German Condor Legion in August / September 1937 during the war in the north in the course of the civil war . At this time the Heinkel He 70 and Dornier Do 17 of the reconnaissance squadron 88 (A / 88) were located here.
