The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms have led to a significant decline in the number of inhabitants since the middle of the 20th century ( rural exodus ).
economy
The community was and is to a large extent characterized by agriculture and livestock farming, which used to be mainly for self-sufficiency ; Mainly wheat and barley are grown . Since the middle of the 20th century, tourism in the form of renting out holiday homes (casas rurales) has become an important source of income for the municipality.
history
Prehistoric finds have been made in the municipality. The Roman road from Uxama Argaela ( El Burgo de Osma ) to Clunia or Asturica Augusta ( Astorga ) ran along the Río Arlanza. The Visigothic church of Quintanilla de las Viñas is only about 11 km northwest. Moorish traces are missing. The place is likely to have arisen in the course of the resettlement or new settlement ( repoblación ) after the reconquest ( reconquista ) of the areas north of the Duero in the 10th century.
