Jurisdicción de San Zadornil is a municipalidad (municipality) in the Partido juridical (subdistrict) Villarcayo de merindad de castilla la vieja of the comarca Las Merindades of the Spanish province of Burgos in the north of the Comunidad Autonoma (corresponds to German federal states) Castilla y León .

Geography and population

The municipality Jurisdicción de San Zadornil juts out into the province of Álava , which belongs to the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country . It is located at about 500 to 1000 meters above sea level in the Cordillera Cantabrica , which is separated from the Montes Obrenes a few kilometers southeast by the Ebro  . It is part of the Montes Obrenes-San Zadornil Nature Park , and the Basque area surrounding it on three sides to the Valderejoko Nature Park.

With an area of ​​almost 31 km², the municipality had only 56 inhabitants in 2019, that is 1.81 inhabitants per square kilometer. The population was halved compared to 2007.

The parish council (Concejo) consists of three members (Concejales). Since the local elections in 2019, two of them belong to the conservative Partido Popular , one to the liberal Ciudadanos .
