The mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms led to a lack of jobs and a migration of part of the population to the cities in the second half of the 20th century ( rural exodus ). The municipality also includes the hamlets (pedanías) Barrio de Díaz Ruiz , Las Vesgas , Solduengo and Terrazos, each with around 15 to 30 inhabitants .
economy
The region has been largely shaped by agriculture for centuries; Fruit growing is of great importance . Tourism (rental of holiday apartments) only plays a subordinate role.
history
Finds from the Celtic , Roman , Visigothic and even from the Islamic - Moorish period have not yet been made in the municipality. It is believed that the establishment of the place goes back to the second Count of Castile , Diego Rodríguez Porcelos (r. 873-885). However, the first written mention of the place name comes from the year 1102.
Attractions
- Los Barrios de Bureba
- The Iglesia de San Pedro dates from the 15th century. The mighty tower, which was raised by one bell storey later, could have belonged to a former fortress.
- About 800 m to the northeast is the small, but mostly precisely hewn stone, Romanesque Ermita de San Facundo , whose western facade, which appears to be cut off, is surmounted by a four-part bell gable (espadaña) . The church was probably planned to be much larger and in fact a large choir arch and the wall approaches of the nave walls are still clearly visible.
- Barrio de Díaz Ruiz
- The local parish church houses the alabaster tomb of Juan de Velasco and his wife.
- Solduengo
- The Iglesia de Santa María was mentioned around the year 1000; the current church, however, dates from the 15th century.
