Diego Rodríguez Porcelos was under King Alfonso III. of Asturias (ruled 866–910) in the years 873–885 second count of Castile (Conde de Castilia) ; in 884 he founded the city of Burgos . The municipality of Villadiego, north-west of the city of Burgos, consisting of approximately 40 hamlets (pedanías) is named after him.

Life

The facts and data on his life are sparse: his father was Count Rodrigo of Castile (ruled approx. 860–873). From his military base, the castle of Pancorbo , Diego Rodríguez Porcelos extended his territory to the Río Arlanzón . He also revived the already by the Visigoths , but founded Islamic-Moorish defunct Diocese of Oca new. Diego Rodríguez Porcelos had at least three sons: Gómez Díaz became Count of Saldaña , Gonzalo Díaz is little known and Fernando Díaz became Count of Lantarón and Cerezo . After Diego Rodríguez 'death, the county of Castile split into several domains and was only reunified almost 50 years later by Fernán González (r. 931-970).
