The individual villages of the municipality of Lantarón have around 50 to 150 inhabitants.

economy

The villages and hamlets of the municipality were and are to a large extent shaped by agriculture; The main crops grown are cereals, but also all kinds of vegetables. In the Zubillaga district on the Río Ebro there is a chemical plant ( General Quimica SA ) and an industrial area ( Poligono Industrial de Lantarón ). In the summer months tourism (rental of holiday apartments) also plays an important role in the economic life of the municipality.

history

Most likely there never was a place called Lantarón , but in the period around 900 there was a short county ( condado ) of the same name, the most famous count ( conde ) of which was Gonzalo Téllez . The still preserved residential towers of two castles in the Fontecha district have nothing to do with the count's castle , they date from the late Middle Ages (15th century) and cannot be assigned to a noble family or a manor ( señorio ).

Attractions

Alcedo
  • The Church of San Martín is a Romanesque building from around 1200 with a renaissance chapel. A Romanesque portal is hidden behind a two-arched south porch ( portico ). A Romanesque window also deserves attention.
  • The hermit church ( Ermita de Santiago ) dates from the 16th century and is located a little outside the village.
Bergüenda ( Bergonda )
  • A so-called 'Roman bridge' ( puente romano ) crosses the Río Omecillo . However, due to its wide-span arches that are pointed at the apex, it is more likely to be attributed to the Middle Ages.
Torre del Condestable
Fontecha ( Fontetxa )
  • The Torre de Condestable is a former keep ( torre de homenaje ) of a late medieval castle, the transverse main building of which already has palace-like features. Both buildings consist of precisely hewn stone material, which is layered in the masonry bond.
  • The same applies to the square Torre de Orgaz . Its entrance is about 2.50 meters high and could only be reached with the help of a ladder. Both towers are only about 200 meters apart on the outskirts of Fontecha.
  • The village church has a remarkable altarpiece.
Puentelarrá ( Larra trainee )
  • The church of San Nicolás de Bari dates from the 18th century.
