Ribera Alta ( Basque Erriberagoitia ) is an association municipality ( municipio ) with 785 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the Spanish province of Álava in the autonomous region of Basque Country . The community association created in the 1970s and 1980s includes the villages of Antezana de la Ribera, Anúcita, Arbígano, Arreo, Artaza-Escota, Barrón, Basquiñuelas, Caicedo-Sopeña, Hereña, Lasierra, Leciñana de la Oca, Morillas, Paúlijana , Pobes, Subijana-Morillas, Tuyo, Villabezana, Villambrosa, Viloria. The main town and center is Pobes.

Ribera Alta is located in the west of the province of Álava at an altitude of about 500 to 700 meters above sea level. d. M. The Bayas River flows in a north-south direction. The provincial capital Vitoria-Gasteiz is about 28 kilometers to the east. The next largest city, Miranda de Ebro , is about 26 kilometers south in the province of Burgos .

economy
The villages and hamlets of the municipality were and are to a large extent shaped by agriculture; The main crops grown are cereals, but also all kinds of vegetables. In the summer months, tourism (hiking, renting out holiday apartments) also plays an important role in the economic life of the municipality.
history
Almost nothing is known about the history of the individual villages. The small Romanesque or Gothic churches, however, suggest that the area was inhabited for a correspondingly long time.
Attractions
- Antezana de la Ribera
- The single nave church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 15th century; but it still has a simple Romanesque south portal. The altarpiece in Churrigueresque style dates from the 18th century.
- Artaza-Escota
- Each of the two districts has a Romanesque church. The one in Artaza was badly damaged by fire in the 19th century, but has been rebuilt true to the original.
- Barrón
- The Casa-Torre de los Barrón y Mendoza is a fortified residential castle with an elevated entrance from the 15th century.
- Leciñana de la Oca
- The Gothic church still has a Romanesque south portal, which is hidden in a two-arched south porch ( portico ). Above it is a bell gable ( espanaña ).
