Chamber tomb of Glyn

The Neolithic chamber tomb of Glyn ( English chambered tomb ) is located on a gentle slope of the Coed y Glen , on the southern edge of the village of Benllech , above the "Red Wharf Bay" in the east of Anglesey in Wales . Less than 800 m away is Pant-y-Saer, another Neolithic megalithic complex and a presumed Viking woman's grave .

Glyn is not one of the common plant types in the British Isles . It is located on the edge of a limestone terrace and instead of erected with upright slabs, it is sunk into the ground. Lying limestone blocks support the huge weathered and broken capstone. The assignment of a third fragment to the capstone is unclear. If it is one of them, it would have been 4.5 m long. There are only traces of a hill left. A raised area around the plant, with a diameter of about 14 meters is probably what remains.

The empty complex was partially examined in 1909.

The Chamber Tomb of Glyn is a Scheduled Monument . The Goosehouse and the Pant-y-Saer dolmen are nearby .

Individual evidence

  1. Submerged systems largely bring with them those stabilizing elements that are preserved above-ground systems by stone packings and the like in a hill. You also do not need inward sloping bearing stones, but occasionally have them anyway for other reasons
